Effective criminal justice for Northumbria

An efficient and effective criminal justice system

Northumbria Criminal Justice Board, working across Northumbria's communities.

Our Priorities

There are three LCJB subgroups which deliver the work on behalf of the board.

  1. 01

    Victims and Witnesses

We want victims and witnesses to feel fully supported during their criminal justice journey in Northumbria, through a victim-focused approach that incorporates lived experience to provide co-ordinated end-to-end care.

    →
  2. 02

    Prevention and Rehabilitation

We want to deliver early intervention strategies with offenders to divert them from the criminal justice system, maximising the opportunity to prevent reoffending and deliver timely outcomes for victims.

    →
  3. 03

    Performance

We want the timely and effective progression of cases through the criminal justice system, increasing confidence and delivering swift outcomes for victims.

    →
  4. 04

    Domestic Abuse

Domestic Abuse is a cross-cutting theme in all of our work, with time-limited groups focusing on specific issues such as a Domestic Abuse Retention Plan.

Our Vision

In Northumbria we will deliver an efficient and effective criminal justice system by adopting a whole system approach to ensure cases are progressed in a fair, just and effective manner.

We want a system where victims feel fully supported by high-quality services that meet their individual needs, and where offenders have access to effective, rehabilitative services to support their desistance from criminal activity.

The criminal justice system is complex and involves a number of agencies, none of whom have sole responsibility for the whole system. Partnership working and collaboration is key, and it is the job of the LCJB to bring together agencies to improve the whole system.
